MESSAGE TO GRADUATE STUDENTS OVERSEAS
FOR ALL OVERSEAS STUDENTS
We presume that many of you must be very much afraid of the ongoing development caused by the Tohoku-Pacific Ocean Earthquake. Waseda University and its graduate schools are now intensively exploring the best ways to minimize your anxiety and to secure your safety. We shall be able to let you know our decisions in the very near future. In the meantime, we would like to have your attention to the following points.
1. We suppose that you are rather confused by various and sometimes conflicting news and information about the present situations related to the earthquake. Some of them are imprecise and have effects amplifying your anxiety. We would like you to evaluate and judge them cautiously and calmly. Please DO NOT PANIC!!
2. The most trustworthy news can be obtained from the websites listed below. Please consult them and keep calm yourself.

FOR STUDENTS WHO PLAN TO RETURN THEIR HOME COUNTRY AND WHO HAVE ALREADY RETURNED HOME
1. If you are thinking of evacuating to your home country, we strongly recommend you to consult your supervisor and obtain some advises. We also strongly recommend you to obtain information from the embassy of your country.
*You must obtain a re-entry permit before leaving Japan, and it is issued in a day. Please go to the nearest Immigration Bureau and take necessary procedures. If you re-enter Japan without a re-entry permit, your current visa status (Student) will be revoked. In this case, you must apply for a new visa (Student).

2. If you decide to return or if you have already returned, please do not worry about some necessary procedures that you are required to take for the coming new semester. We shall take special and full treatments not to cause any disadvantage to you in terms of your academic status in graduate school.
3. We shall let you know about the specific treatments to be taken for you in the very near future through e-mail or websites of your graduate school. Please check e-mails and the websites frequently.

* Waseda University decided today to cancel the graduation ceremony scheduled on 25 March and the entrance ceremony on 2 April 2011. As for how to obtain a certificate of degree, we shall let you know later.
